John Lyons Rope Reins
John Lyons Rope Reins
Custom training tack designed by John Lyons. These are the exact same rope reins John Lyons uses himself every time he rides. Everybody loves them! I sell tons of them in each and every riding clinic. "Every clinic I do... I sell every set of reins I bring. The right tool makes all the difference!" - Keith Hosman, JL Trainer It's not just their "feel," (which is terrific) it's that the "continuous loop" nature and specific length of these training reins allow you to concentrate on working with your horse, rather than looking like some green horn. Honestly, with these things, you'll look like a pro trainer with just a little practice.
John Lyons Reins do not give or stretch like cheap or discounted rope reins offered for sale by importers or, shall we say, "non-John Lyons Certified" trainers. Nope, with these "genuine articles" the rider feels quality. More importantly, the rider feels the instant the horse relaxes his neck and jaw, giving to the bit. They're extra soft in your hands and provide a terrific feel for the horse's mouth. The round or continuous looped rein was created to give the rider more control over horses that want to "get jiggy with ya." The design alone will give you more control. This 10 foot version works great for most horses, (quarters, paints, arabs, etcetera). 12' reins are for large horses such as warmbloods. Note: Reins are measured from end of tip of slobber strap to end of tip of slobber strap. Actual measurements are 9'7" (for the "10 foot" version) and 11'7" (for the "12 foot" version), give or take about one inch. Check out what Jan E. of Elgin SC had to say: "I have used the Josh Lyons Rope Reins for 2 yrs and I love them!!! I get comments from everyone on how great my horse is and how well behaved he is. I keep telling everyone it is the reins and no one will believe me. Some people go so far to tell me I am hurting my horse by using such heavy reins. I have a 10 yr old Tenn. Walking horse and I will never use any other reins with him. So please keep making them!!" These reins are made from a quality roping very similar to "marine or yacht rope," aka "boat cord" and are available in two colors. Choose from:
Note: The gold reins have more of a "cotton" feel; they're a tad softer and thicker than the black reins. Each rein set comes with the leather portion (the "slobber strap") which attaches rein to bit as pictured above. The bit is attached to the slobber straps with the aid of Chicago screws. I advise putting a drop of clear nail polish in there when first attached. That'll hold it tight till you want to make a change, then they're easily swapped with the aid of a flat head screwdriver.
