"He has started rearing and spinning when he decides he's done"

Dear Keith...

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Dear Keith I have a problem horse if you need a demo. He has been a "project" of mine for 2 years. We've done fantastic up until the last 3-4weeks. Now he has started rearing and spinning when he decides he's done. From what I hear he has been "naughty" in the past and then someone stops working with him. He has flipped with a "dressage" trainer. With me we have progressed quite well over the past 2 years but recently he has been doing the above. He has not flipped but I have also just tried to keep things calm and forward. Thank you truly for your time, Kim B

This exercise, Hip-Shoulder-Shoulder, has become a "classic" exercise for one very big reason: It gives you control of your horse's stop. Every horse-related problem you can think of comes down to "going and stopping." "I can't get my horse to...
