"My gelding preceded to run her down and take bites not nips out of her"

Dear Keith...

Monday, November 6, 2006

Dear Keith, I looked through your article on aggression but was not able to find what I'm presently up against. I have a small heard of about 4 Paso Finos. The horse lead or top horse is my gelding who I have had since he was 10 months old, he is presently 7 years. I have trained him and ridden him with no problems. I recently bought a pretty 18 month old pearlino filly who is not aggressive in any way. I kept her off with in a round pen for a week after she arrived. The round pen is in direct sight of the paddock where the other horses are kept. When we introduced her to the other horses, my gelding preceded to run her down and take bites not nips out of her. I finally had to remove my horses and put him off by himself. The rest of the herd has since calmed down and there is peace. I'm worried about bring the problem gelding back in for fear of him doing damage. The gelding in question is not aggressive towards humans, he usually gets along with other horses as well. I don't understand why he is singling out this little filly. Any suggestions. Thanks for all the information you have supplied in the past, it has been a great help. Sincerely, Kay Chase
