"Could you please tell me what the benefits are to the horse by using leg wraps"

Dear Keith...
Wednesday, July 4, 2007
I have a few of the Clinton Anderson training DVDs and I find him to be one of a few trainers who can clearly demonstrate training methods in an easy to understand way. I am relatively new to the horse world, and am a firm believer in the natural horsemanship approach. I have found his DVDs to be VERY helpful, particularly because I am located in a place where I don't have a lot of people to ride with, share ideas, etc.
The one question I have is not training related, but rather, about the leg bandages he uses on all of his horses -- regardless of whether they are on the trail or in an arena.
Could you please tell me what the benefits are to the horse by using these leg wraps, and is it something one should be using on their horses (I trail ride -- no indoor arena work at all).
Thank you.

John suggests using the boots as you see demonstrated by Clinton Anderson. He uses and recommends Professional Choice brand. I’ve always been a Pro Equine person, myself, but that’s just a personal choice. You can read about the Professional Choice boot plus why and at what times it’s recommended here: http://www.profchoice.com/htmldocs/prd/protgear/prd/smbe4.html. The bottom line is that if and when you use boots is a decision best made by you and your vet.

I've listed (above) the site for Professional Choice boots.
Pro Equine boots, the boots I prefer, can be found here: http://www.culturedcowboy.com/proequine/index.htm
