"Should we continue with light riding in the ring while his hooves grow out"

Dear Keith...

Hello, having lots of problems trying to find an answer to my riding question. My horse had his hooves trimmed to low at the heel. He has been fairly aggitated when being ridden. Our question is this....Should we continue with light riding in the ring while his hooves grow out or should be simply rely on lungeing to keep him in shape. I know it's going to be awhile before they grow out to the proper height. Will any kind of riding actually harm him in any way? We do not want to put shoes on him if at all possible. He is a 6 year old who has never been shod.
Thank you for your time. I appreciate any help you can give.
